Astronomers from Australia have found a new source of radio signals. The mysterious source is located near the center of the Galaxy.

Scientists have already named it ASKAP J173608.2-321635. The article, published on the Astrophysical Journal portal, talks about the difficulty of object recognition.

Scientists cannot yet interpret the signal with the shape and properties of an unknown celestial body.

The radio signal was detected using the ultra-sensitive ASKAP telescope, designed specifically for such studies. It helps to study weak radio signals received from all directions of the Cosmos.

According to Australian scientists, the detected source is a highly polarized variable-type radio source. Astronomers claim that ASKAP J173608.2-321635 is unmatched at the moment.

They admit the possibility that the mysterious radio source could represent an entirely new class.

The described object behaves in an unpredictable and very chaotic manner. It happens that scientists receive signals from him for quite a long time.

However, after a while, it stops transmitting radio waves. During the entire study period (from 04/01/19 to 08/01/20), the signal appeared 13 times. Since then, no such signals have been observed.
